Government as Operating System
What if government was like a computer operating system, operating in the background to make sure that society was able to function effectively?
Voters might choose between competing OSes every year or two, based on available features and performance. Effectiveness would be judged by the ability to enable people to get things done without beating them down, with as little hoopla as possible.
A good interface between the “machine” and society would be part of the system package, just like a good computer interface. Just like current OSes, the public would want a government that didn’t use or sell their personal data, and protected their privacy. Access of everyone to all the features of society would be built in.
I wonder if it would even be possible for different people to have different governments, like the situation with OSes now! Some people might be better served with a libertarian government, and some with a socialist government.
Governments/OSes could compete on price (cost) as well as features (benefits). I see this idea of parallel operating governments as fascinating! Everybody gets the government they want, or something as close as possible. And if the government you choose doesn’t work or for you, you can change either whenever you want, or annually like open enrollment for medical plans.
Imagine a help forum where people’s questions were answered by others under the same government, or even a forum that helps you decide which government OS is for you.
What might it look like in the black box? Maybe computer systems, AI, real people and systems working to allow society to function. This part obviously needs more fleshing out.
Gotta work more on this!!
